Andy Carroll set to play against Liverpool this weekend

Andy Carroll’s eagerly awaited return from injury could happen this weekend away at his former club Liverpool.

According to the Daily Mail, Carroll has shown remarkable progress in his efforts to come back from injury, and could be thrown straight back into the action on Saturday.

Carroll suffered serious damage to the MCL in his right knee back in February away at Southampton, as has been out ever since.

However, since the start of the summer, Carroll has been conducting individual training regimes with the plan of being back on the pitch by late August.

That return date was expected to be put back an extra fortnight until after the international break after is was reported that Carroll had angered an old ankle injury while putting on a pair of shoes.

Now it seems like those fears have been quashed, as the 26-year-old is back in first-team training at a full capacity working on his match sharpness, as you can see in a video posted on the official site.

The England international and West Ham’s record signing is set to be named on the bench for the Liverpool game due to the club’s lack of fit & available strikers. If he does not feature against Liverpool, he will be involved in some capacity after the international break against his boyhood club Newcastle.

As for our other strikers, Enner Valencia is still set to miss the next two months with a knee injury.

Valencia issued an apology on the official site today after comments made to South American media outlets about the incompetence of the West Ham medical staff.

Mauro Zarate will also miss this weekend’s game. After pulling his hamstring in a sprint drill last week, Zarate has been out of action in all forms.

The club, however, are hopeful that he will return sooner than expected, and he is also in contention for the Newcastle game, but remains on a ‘week to week’ basis.

A new addition to the injury table is Diafra Sakho. The Senegalese striker suffered an adductor strain in the loss to Bournemouth last weekend, and the club are working hard to get him fit and ready for the Liverpool game, thus possibly the urge to rush Carroll back into action so soon.

We’ve seen it time and time again with Andy Carroll though, re-aggravating injuries that haven’t healed properly because we desperately need someone to make an impact for us in that area of the pitch.

Hopefully, that’s not the case this time around.

I remember the good old days when if you had a long term injury you would slowly build up your fitness with 2 or 3 reserve games... no wonder there are so many injuries these days...

Modern Football long term injury returns are SHIT

Re: Carroll to play against Liverpool!!!!!
If he is training we could give him some time in a development game next week. Then it's the international break and we don't play til the Mon 14th v Newcastle
Maybe a sub appearance then would be the absolute first chance of him playing.

So he might be on track as promised, and maybe never rolled his ankle putting on a shoe and put it back to September as reported.
Good stuff!

Re: Carroll to play against Liverpool!!!!!
Apparently he is injury free but not match fit.

Hopefully he has been told to restrain himself in the match and can come on for five minutes at the end to make liverpool worry about something else.
